Message from school Chairman - Mr. Joseph Gathonga Chairman KAG School

It is with great joy that I present this report through our annual newsletter – Angaza.

I do indeed thank God for the year that was 2016 that showed tremendous progress to our school. The year went on smoothly and we were able to meet most or all our set targets within the year despite several challenges especially with:

- The devolved system of government

-Economic challenges

- Competitors around us.

The school has maintained focus on the delivery of its core functions without compromising standards: e.g. -delivery of high quality education and nurturing pupils in extra curriculum activities to promote talent and equip our pupils to compete favorably in the ever-diminishing job market both locally, nationally and internationally.

All our activities were built on last year’s progress and consistent with our long term goals as demonstrated by our level of growth.

I want to acknowledge the tireless efforts both physically, financially, advice and the encouragement from, Rosemary and indeed the entire Emley Africa Educational Project team and all well-wishers, The board of management, The headmaster and his teaching team, All support staff at the school, May god bless you all.

Your consistence and tireless effort depicts commitment to a good course and only time will prove the lessons we have learned.

I am also very grateful to the KAG family for their support both physically, morally and in the implementation of all our projects and activities.

Message from the Head teacher

Dear reader, once more it is an honor writing in our 14th edition of our school newsletter. It is through cooperation from the entire sector the school continue to grow and attract new parents and pupils. I must thank everybody that has contributed to be where we are. This year I want to report that it was a year where most of the projects that were earmarked to be supported by our donors were achieved I must thank all of them for the 16 year they have tirelessly devoted their time, energy and resources to achieve all we can see in school.

I was privileged to have a chance to travel to UK through the support of Rosemary and Jim. While in UK, I was able to meet most of the sponsors and we had healthy chat concerning the school. I would see the motivation and passion from our supporters, I was also taken to many places in UK and Scotland, what an honor it was .I must thank Rosemary and Jim for making this to happen. Thanks Rosemary and Jim!

We have achieved a lot as a school and I must report that since 2009 our school has been conducting national exam and 99% of our pupils transited to higher school. So far, we have 40 pupils in University and over 30 in different colleges. Looking backward and referring to our goals during the school inception, we have achieved raising the standard of education in the community. I am looking forward to seeing KAG School old boys and girls contributing in our national building and uplifting the living standard of the less fortunate. All this has not been been easily achieved it required tireless effort of our donors who have been supporting in supporting less fortunate and building of the infrastructure, Board of management who have been very supportive, parents who trusted us with their children and the members of teaching and non-teaching staff. I salute you all dear colleagues, without you we would not be where we are.

God bless you all.

I wish everyone Merry Christmas and happy new year 2017

Mr. Harrison Kamere - Headmaster KAG School.

Teacher’s corner

Welfare department

Like last year, this has been another blessed and a healthy year.

Most pupils and teachers have had a very conducive environment for learning which has contributed greatly to a better performance of most of the pupils.

In fact, the learning had been much better with the introduction of motivational tokens to both teachers and pupils (candidates) i.e. above 400 marks in every exam, were provided with lunch and the best teacher was given 1000, courtesy of the head teacher, Mr Kamere

With his promise to other classes, it is believed to be even a better academic future.

However, we are sad to express our condolences to our dear pupils who lost their parents though with minimal cases.

As a school, we managed to give our condolences as a word of pole to the bereaved.

As we come to the end of the year 2016, the welfare department would like to wish, first a successful exams to 2016 candidates and a prosperous and a happy new year 2017.

By the welfare department

God bless all         Mr Sifuna and Md Rose Barasa

Boarding department

The boarding in KAG School started on May 2015 with 54 pupils. Classes 7 and 8 were incorporated in the boarding section that was mandatory for them to be boarder’s .For the other classes it was optional whereby there are few pupils in classes 4, 5 and 6 who are also boarders.

The boarding section is still doing very well and it is really assisting the pupils especially the classes 8 to perform extremely well as it creates a lot of time for them to study.

DRUG ABUSE

Oh why……

Why or why did ever start?

I know my habit is breaking the heart

Of my mother and father

Oh why did I ever start?

Friends said bhang would help me read

So I found it easy to smoke the weed

At first just a little

And the a lot more

Oh why had I ever agreed?

They said it was ‘smart’ to take this drink

I took the first as quick as wink

Then I swiftly swallowed

One after the other

Oh why didn`t I stop to think?

So now every day I need powders and pills

For hallucinations and getting thrill

They make me feel better

But just for a minute

Oh why do I make myself ill?

We finally bow to thank the almighty God for the good care he gave us this successful year and be optimistic for the same in the coming year.

The Scouting and Girl Guides

The KAG school has very active scouts and girl guides, they really assist in raising and lowering the flag every Monday and Friday.

The club also assists in keeping the school tidy by planting flowers in the school compound. The scouts and girl guides also carry out first aid in the school.

The scouts and girl guides also make several trips to go for camps to get more education on scouting and girl guiding.

Drama and Music Club

Here comes the field in which the heart of many young stars lies. This is where the young get their realization of their God given talents like singing, poetry, dancing, public speaking, reporting etc. It has served as a pave way to nurture young to their future careers.

Through music clubs, the young stars gain courage, eloquence in speech and end up being public figures.

I hereby take this opportunity to thank the administration for all the support they have given to us. Also thank all the young stars AKA ‘Wanamalenga’ for their commitment.

Their efforts are the one, which have taken them to nationals in Nairobi at Kasarani stadium. Thanks to all and welcome to all.

By the music teacher, md Ann.

Bilble Club

The club is very active and has many members. In this, club children learn memory verses and songs. Children also have trips to different places whereby they meet with other children and this helps them to interact well. The word of God is taught and it helps them to be God-fearing children and which contributes to being disciplined

Proverbs 9; 10; the fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom. Knowledge of the holy one results in understanding.

Message from Mike and Dilys

Coming back to Kenya and KAG School.

Dilys and I were unable to make our ‘regular’ biennial trip to Kenya in November 2015: a tradition that started in November 2001 and that has continued for longer than we might have imagined back then.  Even a few weeks ago, we were unsure that we could make the trip this year but all is now arranged and we leave in two days on my tenth (and Dilys’ eighth) visit.

Although arranged at short notice, we have now packed the cases and started taking the Lariam tablets (against Malaria, hopefully), having already checked that our injections are all still in date (hepatitis, typhoid, tetanus, polio and yellow fever).  Now we just have to cancel the milk deliveries and water the indoor plants.

We doubt that Mr. Harrison had quite so many precautions to take for his recent visit to the UK although he did find that he needed a few layers of clothing to protect him from the British summer!  If you think that it is ever cold in Kenya, you should ask Mr. Harrison about the rainy day in Black pool OR the wind on the Yorkshire moors (when I was wearing a thin short-sleeved shirt) OR how he came to dinner with his overcoat on.  It is a good thing that he did not come in winter!

The School

It has been very rewarding to experience the gradual development of KAG School from the construction of the first classroom to the now splendid collection of buildings and facilities.  We can barely remember the trepidation we felt in November 2001 when we were deliberating whether we could realistically fund the building of a classroom each year for eight years.  Nor can we really believe that fifteen years have flown by!

However, the real achievements are less tangible than stone and mortar.  The real school is composed of teachers, support staff and pupils and the real achievement is the delivery of quality education to hundreds of children, some of whom would otherwise have had little or no formal schooling. KAG School has consistently improved its results and helped to raise educational standards in Msambweni District and the whole Coastal Region: an achievement recognized by the local education authority.  A large and increasing proportion of pupils’ progress into secondary education and that pattern is echoing into further education and university.  Everyone at the school and everyone who has supported should be happy and proud to be involved.

We are pleased with and proud of the pupils we have sponsored.  We know that they have had to work hard to pass exams, to develop skills and to become employable in a difficult economic environment and we are satisfied that our contribution has been more than worthwhile.

Thanks to Rosemary

Once the nursery school was completed and the building of a primary school was mooted, Rosemary’s vision and enthusiasm got that project started.  As I said above, the need to build a classroom each year was a daunting prospect and the decision to proceed was not taken lightly.  Nor were we prepared to proceed until we were satisfied that the school would be self-sustaining.  Having agreed to proceed, the project relied on Rosemary’s commitment, tenacity and hard work throughout.  That she has achieved so much despite her gradually failing health and strength due to Multiple Sclerosis, is further testament to her passion and persistence.

Mike & Dilys Williams

30 October 2016

Rosemary says thank you Mike but without such wonderful friends and a marvelous Head teacher and teachers, nothing would have been possible

Mungu awabariki nyote.
